There are a lot of methods out there for creating a brilliant organic garden. First, you must learn the methods, and then choose which ones you would like to implement.
Having a garden of perennials can be an easy and quick process. It isn’t as hard as it may seem; you basically just slice down under the turf, flip it over, and spread wood chips four to three inches. Wait two weeks, then dig in and plant the new perennials.
Be efficient when working in your garden. Don’t waste your time by searching high and low for that packet of seeds or spade. By keeping your tools in a certain area, they will always be ready whenever you are. You can use a tool belt for this purpose, or choose pants that contain several large pockets.
Use plastic bags to cover muddy gardening shoes. This keeps your flow going, so you can get back out to the garden quickly and finish your work.
Believe it or not, pine makes great mulch. Some plants have a naturally high acidic level, and therefore like acidic soil. For these types of plants, pine needles are wonderful for mulching. Cover the beds with a couple inches of needles and as they decompose, they will disperse acid to the soil.
Coffee grounds can benefit many types of soil. Coffee grounds are rich in nitrogen, an essential nutrient for plant growth. Generally, nitrogen is the limiting nutrient with any plant and having a good nitrogen source either by coffee grounds, compost, or even diluted urea, will make your plants bloom faster and grow taller.
Use an old laundry basket to bring your fresh produce in from the garden. Most laundry baskets are designed with a multitude of holes. This makes them a perfect strainer for washing your vegetables. Rinse the produce while it sits in the basket, the extra water will go through the holes in the basket.
Would you like to kill those obnoxious weeds naturally? Put down old newspapers in several layers for controlling weeds. Weeds require sunlight to continue growing. When you cover weeds with newspaper layers, they suffocate due to lack of light. Old newspapers are a valuable addition to your compost heap. You can then add a mulch layer right on top so that it looks more attractive.
When planting seeds into a container, the depth of your planting should be three times bigger than the seed. Certain seeds are an exception to that rule, since they require sunlight to germinate, so they should be barely covered or not at all. Ageratum and petunias are two examples of seeds that should not be planted deeply. If you don’t know whether your seeds require sun exposure, check the seed package or search online for the information.
If you’re planning on selling crops to people and labeling them as organic, you will need to receive an organic gardening certification. Having this certification will create a lot of trust with customers. People who want to eat organically will purchase from you with full confidence.
